NetModerator School Edition comprises two technological components: the Engine for Content Analysis (ECA) and the Engine for Relationship Analysis (ERA) seeks out the full range of inappropriate behaviours.

Engine for Content Analysis™
What The ECA Does
The ECA is an advanced system designed for key word and phrase matching but it also understands concepts. Rather than simply raising an alarm every time a target word match is made, the engine first assesses the content within its surroundings and gauges the level of threat it represents. We have designed the ECA to look for content within instant messenger chatter that might indicate that an abusive or unhealthy relationship is developing between a child and another correspondent. The ECA is particularly effective at uncovering abusive and bullying within relationships because the nature of this behaviour is expressed almost entirely within the content of the message. This means that the ECA is a very effective early warning system for parents and web moderators
How It Works
- We have programmed the ECA to look for indicators of a potentially harmful relationship. For example the engine searches for content indicating that someone is attempting to make face to face or telephone contact with a child or that a child is divulging personal information such as an address or telephone number. The ECA also searches for obscene and sexual language content which may be innocent, inappropriate or more sinister depending on the context
- The ECA trawls through chatter as it is generated and tags any words or phrases that match the parameters that we have set it
- Any successful matches are then reported swiftly to parents or web site moderators so that they can assess the information and take appropriate action
Engine for Relationship Analysis™
What The ERA Does
The ERA is a highly sophisticated system which uncovers behaviour types by analysing written dialogue. This unique, patent pending technology was purpose built to protect children from online predators by reading between the lines of instant messenger and social network site chatter. The ERA has been independently tested by the University of Cambridge and is proven to be 98.4% effective in exposing “grooming” and predatory behaviour which cannot be found simply by looking for “naughty words”
How It Works
- We have vast databases holding analysis of millions of lines of children’s instant messenger chat as well as extensive records taken from convicted “groomer” cases. From this data we create dynamic, minutely detailed behavioural profiles of real-life groomers and real-life boys and girls
- When dialogue is processed through the ERA it examines what participants are saying and how they say it. It can understand the way in which participants’ direct conversations. The ERA analyses over two hundred factors in each conversation. Some aspects of the analysis are simple, others are more technical. For example the engine examines typing speed, syntax and use of punctuation as well as aggression levels, sexual content and pattern recognition techniques
- As we feed the ERA more lines of chatter we are able to refine both our profiles of “groomers” and children’s behaviour as well as the engine’s ability to assess relationships and uncover negative or unhealthy trends
